How to Make This Pear Crumble Recipe:

This pear crumble recipe is super simple! The first step is to combine the chopped fruits with cornstarch and lemon juice. The cornstarch will thicken the fruit mixture, and the lemon juice will balance the sweetness. Add the spices and cranberries. Transfer to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.

The next step is to make the pear crumble topping. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then mix the melted butter with a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly. Sprinkle the dough onto the fruit and spread evenly.

The crumble topping is evenly spread over the fruit mixture before baking.

Bake in the center rack for at least 30 minutes or until a golden topping is achieved. Serve it with your favorite ice cream or yogurt! Enjoy!

How to Store it:

Let the pear crumble cool before storing it in an airtight container. It can be refrigerated for 4-5 days or frozen in a freezer-safe container for six months.

Variations:

If you want a gluten-free version, replace the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour, such as almond flour.

For a vegan option, try vegan butter or coconut oil instead of butter.

Want to try it with other fruits? Stone fruits and berries would be also delicious!

Ingredients

Scale

3 medium pears, core removed, peeled and chopped 1" pieces

3 medium apples, core removed, peeled, and chopped 1" pieces

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon lemon juice

½ cup dried unsweetened cranberries, or can use fresh

½ teaspoon ground ginger

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon allspice

1 cup all-purpose flour

¼ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Set aside a greased pie pan or baking dish. In a large mixing bowl, combine the pears, apples, cornstarch, lemon juice, cranberries, and spices. Mix to evenly combine. Pour into the baking dish and spread evenly to cover the bottom of the pan. Set aside.

In another large mixing bowl (or the mixing bowl used to mix the pear mixture rinsed completely), combine the flour, sugars, and salt. Then add the butter and mix with a pastry cutter or large fork until a crumbly dough texture is formed, almost pea-sized crumbles will appear.

Sprinkle the crumble mixture onto the pear mixture in the baking dish. Make sure the crumble is evenly coating the top of the pear mixture. Bake in the oven on the center rack for 30-40 minutes or until the topping turns golden brown.

Serve with your vanilla ice cream or yogurt!
