How to Make Air Fryer Baked Apples:

Apples are the star of this recipe! I used Gala, but other types of apples for baking will also be perfect!

Adding softly baked apples with the warm spices of cinnamon and nutmeg with brown sugar and oats makes this a simple and satisfying fall treat!

The first part is to core the apples which can be done with an apple corer or a metal spoon to scoop out the middle core and seeds. Then brush with melted butter and set aside. Combine the remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl to make the baked apple topping.

Top them with the oat mixture and place them in the air fryer with the skin side down. Set the mode to Bake, set the temperature to 350 degrees, and cook for 12-15 minutes or until able to pierce with a fork. Carefully remove the apples with a pair of tongs or a large serving spoon to keep everything together, the oat mixture will be crumbly!

How to Store It:

Enjoy leftover air fryer baked apples in the refrigerator! Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.

Variations:

To make this recipe gluten-free, use certified gluten-free oats as there is always the risk of contamination in processing.

To make this recipe vegan and dairy-free, use coconut oil or vegan butter for the regular dairy-containing butter used in this recipe.

No air fryer? No problem! Bake the apples on a baking sheet at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 40-45 minutes, or until softened.

I hope you found this recipe to be super simple and delicious! Apples are delicious on their own, but what better way to enjoy a cozy fall dessert that is soft, warm, and spiced with autumn flavors?

Ingredients

Scale

3 medium apples, halved and cored (see Notes 1)

4 tablespoons melted butter, unsalted

½ cup rolled oats

2 tablespoons brown sugar

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ cup chopped pecans, unsalted

Salt to taste

Instructions

Spread the apple halves cut-side up on a cutting board or baking sheet. Brush the half the melted butter on the apples. Set aside.

In a small mixing bowl, combine the remaining ingredients (including the remaining melted butter) to make the oat mixture, and stir to combine. Scoop the oat mixture onto the apples and divide evenly.

Transfer the apples and oat mixture carefully into the air fryer basket with the skin side down (see Notes 3 & 4).  Close the lid and set the air fryer to bake mode at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes. The apples should be soft and able to be pierced with a fork or knife. Repeat steps 1-4 with the remaining apples (optional) see Notes 3.

Notes

  1. To core the apples use a corer or a large metal spoon to scoop out the seeds and core.
  2.  To make this vegan, use coconut oil or a vegan butter alternative.
  3.  Depending on your air fryer type, you may need to cook the apples in two batches, filling just the bottom of the basket with the apple halves.
  4. If you don't have an air fryer, bake on a baking sheet or in an oven-safe dish at 350 degrees Farhenheit for 40-45 minutes, or until softened.
