A Vegan Cookbook Review for Meat Lovers

Published: May 20, 2018 by Katie Pfeffer MS, RD · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Are you a meat eater thinking about expanding to more plant-based options? This mouth-watering cookbook, Great Vegan BBQ Without a Grill by Linda and Alex Meyer is your answer! This mother-daughter duo, the bloggers for Veganosity, will make your summer season more enjoyable and filled with vegan meat dishes that are sure to please any crowd.

Being married to a lifelong vegetarian, I choose to not cook meat at home (although I do prepare fish for myself). Yet, sometimes at home I want a taste of chicken or meatballs. This cookbook satisfies my meat craving with nutritious recipes including plant-based legumes, mushrooms, and even meat alternatives, such as vital wheat gluten (the main ingredient for seitan).

For my first recipe to try from this book I let the hubby choose. The Home on the Range Buffalo Quinoa Burgers, let's just say, were a huge hit in our kitchen. This fulfilling burger packed with protein and fiber-rich quinoa and sweet potatoes was topped with a delicious spicy buffalo sauce. This meal was accompanied with some baseball watching and happy stomachs. What I really enjoyed about this recipe was how freezer-friendly it was. We decided to make extra patties and freeze ahead for quick weeknight dinners.

Besides the beautiful food photography showing off drips of BBQ sauce and spreads of colorful vegetables, I really enjoyed the simplicity in the recipe. Vegan cooking is still new to me during my food blogging journey, and the Veganosity girls did an excellent job explaining the ingredients and directions. I found the name dropping of some of the products incredibly helpful for food shopping. I had never bought liquid smoke or vegan Worcestershire sauce until I read their book! The variety of recipes in this book ranges from meaty dishes to lighter sides and party-favorite dips and sauces.

If you are also like me and excited for the summer season, go ahead and grab this delicious vegan cookbook! You can find the cookbook available here.
